About Runner 1

Runner 1 helps you decide what to run next using your previous runs and today’s conditions. It prepares a plan before you run, compares your live metrics with the active target during the run, and analyzes the new record afterward.

Getting started

How do I start a run?

Tap the Run button at the bottom of the iPhone app, then choose a running mode. You can select an Aerobic Run, Goal Run, or Today’s Strategy Run. Available modes may vary with your subscription and Apple Watch connection.

Do I need an Apple Watch?

You can review your daily briefing, pace strategy, saved runs, and analysis on iPhone. Run tracking and live guidance are available when an Apple Watch with Runner 1 installed is connected.

How do I end a run?

Pausing does not end the run. On the controls screen, press and hold the Stop button for 1.5 seconds. Runner 1 will end the session and begin saving the workout.

Before, during, and after your run

How does Runner 1 decide what to recommend today?

Runner 1 Plus analyzes eligible runs from the last 28 days together with today’s conditions. It considers pace, distance, duration, heart rate, cadence, and the time between runs, then adds context such as weather and local time. It does not invent values when the available records cannot support them.

What guidance will I get during a run?

Runner 1 compares your current pace, heart rate, and cadence with the targets for the mode you selected. When you move outside the target or need to adjust, it can notify you with Apple Watch haptics and iPhone voice feedback. During a Strategy Run, the segment targets created for today carry into live guidance.

What happens after a run?

You can review how pace, heart rate, and cadence changed across the run. The new record also updates your 28-day overall, aerobic, and high-intensity trends. Available details depend on what the recording device or app saves to Apple Health.

Frequently asked questions

I can’t hear voice feedback.

Check your iPhone volume, Silent Mode, and Bluetooth earphone connection. Your iPhone and Apple Watch must remain connected to use live voice feedback.

My heart rate isn’t being measured.

Make sure your Apple Watch is snug on your wrist and that Apple Health access is allowed. If measurement still does not begin, check the connection between your Apple Watch and iPhone.

Where are my run records stored?

Completed runs are saved to Apple Health through HealthKit. Runner 1 reads workouts from Apple Health within the permissions you grant. Runs recorded in another app can also appear when that app saves them to Apple Health.

Is my run still saved if AI analysis fails?

Yes. A failed AI analysis does not remove the original workout saved in Apple Health. Wait a moment, then try the analysis again from the same screen.

Where can I manage Runner 1 Plus?

Review renewal and cancellation in your iPhone’s App Store subscription settings. If an existing subscription does not appear, use Restore Purchases in Runner 1 Settings.

How Runner 1 uses data

Runner 1 accesses HealthKit and location only after you grant the permissions required for a feature. Workout records, weather, and local-time context are used for briefings, live guidance, and run analysis.

When you request an AI feature, the running metrics and context needed for that feature may be sent to an external AI service to generate the result. Analytics and crash reporting do not include workout values such as distance, duration, heart rate, cadence, calories, or pace, or the contents of AI requests and responses.
